What we configure

The Odoo apps behind a working legal desk

Odoo has no standard legal app, so we assemble one from Project, Timesheets, Documents, Sign and Accounting. A small custom module then adds what a law practice needs and standard Odoo lacks: case numbers, court dates and conflict checks.

Featured module

One record per matter

Each case or matter is an Odoo project holding the client, counterparties, court, responsible lawyer and fee arrangement. Emails, filings, tasks and decisions are logged underneath, so anyone picking up the file sees the full history.

  • Black and red case numbers for Thai court matters
  • Deadlines as scheduled activities with reminders
  • Private matters visible only to the assigned team
  • A client portal view of status and shared files

Standard Odoo set up for your sector first; custom code only where it stops.

Intake and conflict checks

Inquiries arrive through a web form or an email alias. Firms run a conflict search before accepting; in-house teams route requests by type and priority.

Hearings and deadlines

Hearings, filing dates and limitation periods sit on the matter calendar, sync to Google or Outlook, and remind both the lawyer and the assistant.

Matter files

Odoo Documents files pleadings, evidence and correspondence per matter, with tags, access rules and share links for clients.

Engagement letters

Odoo Sign sends engagement letters and fee agreements for e-signature and files the signed PDF on the matter.

Time capture

Lawyers log time from a timer, the mobile app or a weekly grid. Each entry carries the matter, the task and whether it is billable.

Fee arrangements

Hourly, fixed-fee, milestone and prepaid retainer matters invoice from the same flow, with Thai VAT and withholding tax handled on each bill.

Client funds and disbursements

Court fees and costs advanced for a client are tracked and rebilled. Money held for clients sits in its own bank journal with a ledger per client.

Workload and profitability

Hours by lawyer, unbilled time by matter and margin by practice group, drawn from the same records that produce the invoice.

Why Odoo

Case work and accounting on the same database

Many firms run matters in one tool, time in a spreadsheet and invoices in an accounting package, then reconcile all three at month-end. On Odoo, the hour a lawyer logs is the line the client is billed and the revenue your accountant reports.

Configure first, code last

Standard apps cover most of a practice. Custom code is limited to what they cannot do, shipped as a separate module with the source in your repository.

Thai and cross-border billing

Thai VAT, withholding tax on fees and e-Tax Invoice for local clients; USD or EUR invoices for foreign clients from the same books.

Access that follows the matter

A partner sees the whole firm, an associate sees assigned files and a client sees only their own. Changes to key fields are logged with the user and time.

Hosting you choose

Odoo.sh, a cloud server in your region or your own hardware. Confidential files stay on infrastructure you control.

Before you commit

What Odoo will not do for a law practice

Odoo is a strong base for legal operations, not a finished legal product. These are the gaps we raise on the first call.

01

No court-rules engine

Odoo does not calculate procedural deadlines. Dates come from your lawyers or from rules you define in a custom module, and a lawyer still confirms each one.

02

Conflict checks are custom work

Standard search finds names in contacts. A formal check across related parties, aliases and closed matters, with a recorded result, needs a custom module.

03

Trust rules are yours to confirm

We set up separate journals and per-client ledgers for money held for clients. Whether that satisfies your bar rules, or IOLTA in the US, is for your accountant to confirm.

04

Documents and Sign need Enterprise

Matter filing and e-signature are Enterprise apps. On Community you work with attachments and a separate signing tool.

05

No court e-filing link

Filing through the Thai courts' e-Filing system or US court portals stays manual. Odoo keeps the filed copy, the date and who filed it.

06

Legacy history rarely maps cleanly

Old matter lists and time records seldom fit a new structure. We import open matters and balances first and archive closed history as files when a full import is not worth the cost.

How we help

Not sure Odoo fits your practice? A short scoping call gets you a straight answer, including when a dedicated legal system is the better choice.

Reliability & security

Engineered for reliability & security

Role-based access

Odoo security groups and record rules so each person sees only what their job needs.

Tested backups

Daily backups with restores rehearsed on a schedule. An untested backup is not a backup.

Full audit trail

Chatter history, approvals and document logs show who changed what, and when.

Hardened hosting

TLS everywhere, patched servers, firewalls and monitoring whether you run Odoo.sh or your own server.

PDPA-aware data handling

Personal data kept where it belongs, with retention and access set up around Thailand's PDPA.

Upgrade-safe custom code

Custom work lives in separate, tested modules so the next Odoo version is an upgrade, not a rebuild.

Rollout

A smooth rollout, fully supported

  1. Walk the process

Workshops with the people who do the work, before any configuration.

  2. Configure the baseline

Standard Odoo set up for your sector first; custom code only where it stops.

  3. Pilot with one team

One site, one team, one month, on live data, with a rollback point.

  4. Scale and hand over

Roll out to the rest, train by role, and stay through the first month-end close.

Dedicated consultant

The same person from the first call to go-live.

Documentation you keep

Process guides and handover notes in your own repository.

Training in EN or TH

Role-based sessions for new staff, whenever you need them.

Integrations

Connected to the tools your lawyers already use

Mail and calendars connect through Odoo's standard sync. Anything else is a small integration we build and price per endpoint once the data flow is agreed in writing.

  • Google Calendar
  • Outlook
  • Gmail
  • Microsoft 365
  • Odoo Documents
  • Odoo Sign
  • PromptPay QR
  • Stripe
  • LINE Official Account
  • QuickBooks

Email filed to the matter

Copy a matter's email alias and the message, attachments included, lands in that matter's history.

Calendars in both directions

Hearings and deadlines sync with Google or Outlook, so reminders reach lawyers on their phones.

Payments that reconcile

Clients pay by PromptPay QR, bank transfer or card, and bank statement lines match against open invoices.

Data you can take with you

Every list exports to Excel, and the database is PostgreSQL you control, so reporting tools and future moves are never locked out.

Engagement options

Three ways to get started

We do not publish package prices. Every quote follows a scoping call and fixes scope and price per phase, in writing. Odoo licenses are billed by Odoo directly and never marked up by us.

Fit and scope review

Usually two to four weeks. We walk one matter from intake to final invoice and tell you plainly whether Odoo fits.

Priced after scoping

  • Process walk-through with lawyers and staff
  • Gap analysis against standard Odoo
  • Community or Enterprise recommendation
  • Costed roadmap by phase

FAQ

Questions clients ask first

Does Odoo have a legal case management module?

Not as a standard app. We configure Project, Timesheets, Documents, Sign and Accounting for matters and billing, then add a small custom module for case numbers, court dates and conflict checks. You own that module's source code.

Can Odoo handle hourly, fixed-fee and retainer billing?

Yes. One matter's sales order can hold a fixed-fee line next to an hourly line, and prepaid retainers show the hours remaining as time is logged. Approved timesheets become invoice lines, so billed hours match worked hours.

How is client trust money handled in Odoo?

We configure a separate bank journal and a liability ledger per client, so every deposit, payment and refund traces back to one matter. Odoo is not a certified trust-accounting product, so your accountant confirms the setup meets your bar or IOLTA rules.

Does it work for in-house legal teams and public agencies?

Yes. Without client billing, the same setup tracks requests from the business, contract reviews, disputes and deadlines, with reports on workload and outside counsel spend. Agencies can add stricter access rules and logged changes on key fields.

How much does legal case management on Odoo cost?

Cost splits into Odoo licensing and implementation. Community is free, Enterprise is a per-user subscription billed by Odoo, and implementation is quoted per phase after we walk your process. You get a written price and timeline before work starts.
