The honest limits of Odoo in an automotive business
Odoo covers a lot of this industry with standard apps, but some pieces are custom work and one important app needs Enterprise. We put these on the table in the first call.

Vehicle fields are a small module
Standard Repair does not know about VINs, odometers or insurers. We add those fields and the vehicle history view as a compact module, scoped and priced on its own line.

The Rental app is Enterprise only
Odoo Rental needs an Enterprise license. On Community, rental can be built from sales orders and a booking calendar, but it is more manual, and we will show you both options with costs.

Parts data is the real project
Thousands of part numbers with duplicates, supersessions and vague descriptions take longer to clean than the software takes to configure. We budget that time openly.

Rental damage needs a process
Condition photos at check-out and check-in, deposit deductions and disputed damage need an agreed process, not just software. We write that process with you.

Insurer paperwork varies
Each insurer wants its own claim format and approval flow. We build report templates for the insurers you bill most, and leave the rare ones manual.

Odoo Online limits add-ons
The vehicle module and any insurer templates are custom code, which Odoo Online does not accept. Plan for Odoo.sh or your own server from the start.

Data contract first
We agree which system owns each field, such as part price, stock level or vehicle position, before any sync is built.
Price files on a schedule
Supplier price and availability files import on a schedule, so the counter quotes today's cost, not last quarter's.
Deposits reconciled
Rental deposits taken by transfer or card match to the contract, and refunds post against the same record.

FAQ
Questions clients ask first
Can Odoo run a repair workshop out of the box?
The Repair app handles estimates, parts and invoicing out of the box, and it works on Community. What it lacks are vehicle-specific fields such as VIN, odometer and insurer, which we add as a small module so job cards read the way a workshop expects.
Does the system keep service history per vehicle?
Yes. Every job, part and invoice links to the vehicle record, so searching a plate or VIN shows the full history. Reminders for the next service are scheduled from the last job; date-based reminders are standard, and odometer-based triggers are a small customization we scope honestly.
Can Odoo manage vehicle rental with deposits?
Yes. The Rental app shows availability, creates contracts and bills daily to monthly rates, and we record deposits as liabilities that are refunded or offset against damage. Note that Rental needs an Enterprise license; on Community we build a leaner flow from sales orders.
How does it handle Thai tax at the counter?
Full tax invoices print at the counter with your head office or branch number, withholding tax applies where corporate customers deduct it, and e-Tax Invoice & e-Receipt runs through the service provider you choose. The setup is agreed with your accountant.
How long does an automotive Odoo implementation take?
A focused core covering repair, parts and accounting typically runs six to twelve weeks, with rental added as its own slice. The state of your parts data moves the timeline more than anything else. You get a phased timeline after scoping, not before.
